To analyze how changes on aberration and aperture affects the images formed
Overview of lens system to simulate
We modeled the essences of a typical camera lens system that consists of several lenses. The captured image of objects are projected through the lens system onto a screen placed at a distance. The parameters of the lens system are made modifiable for ease of analysis.
Image formed by lens system with aberration
The image of objects formed on the screen appears defocused when the aberration is not properly corrected in the lens system. The three colored vertical lines on the image are set to investigate spatial luminance along the lines.
Image formed by lens system with aberration correction
With a proper aberration correction in the lens system, the image becomes focused and much sharper.
Image formed by lens system with small aperture
The formed image shows low brightness and low contrast as a whole, because amount of incident light is limited by the small aperture opening.
Image formed by lens system with large aperture
By opening the aperture, brightness of the image increases and consequently the images shows higher contrast.
