Introduction

Formula II provides a powerful bi-directional paint design environment which associates paint appearance and composition thus allowing a user to control either of them while obtaining the other ones at interactive speeds. This bi-directional design environment represents a powerful tool for both paint design artist (appearance-driven paint design), and manufacturer (composition-driven paint design).

Formula II significantly extends SPECTER for design of visually complex, technologically advanced coating materials. SPECTER deals with optical property of the outer surface of coating material, and cannot generate any information pertaining to the composition and structure of the paint being designed. This may result in the design of a paint with optical properties that are technologically not feasible. SPECTER is also unable to calculate the appearance of a paint from its composition data.

This is what Formula II is for:

  • design of technologically feasible paints
  • generation of information necessary for actual paint manufacturing
  • visual simulation of paint appearance for a given composition

Formula II provides an intuitive control of appearance attributes including paint texture and truly interactive speeds. Cooperating with SPECTER it makes development of coatings more advanced and wide-coveraging.
